Fan girl moment and big shout out to one of my fav skincare brands, Pestle and Mortar for creating THE best summer skin cleanser. This product has been my most reached for product for the last 4 months and now I’m gunna shout about it!
The beauty industry is an exciting place to be! The advances made in formulations and skincare, especially over the last 5 years, has been amazing. Traditional skincare that always felt a little one faceted and did the bare minimum for our complexions is over. Nobody should be using anything rudimentary anymore when there are so many awesome products that work hard and make you look AND feel fabulous.
This summer I got into Gel cleansers in a big way. Traditionally I shied away from “gels” as they seemed liked the solution for oily or acne prone skin; stripping and harsh. The new wave of gel cleansers is a fancy hybrid of nurturing oils and natural ingredients. Many with a gel/balm texture so they feel rich and luxurious on the face yet leave behind no residue, so your skin feels clean yet cared for.
First up is RENEW by Pestle and Mortar who’s products are free from parabens, mineral oil, silicones, sulphates, propylene and animal derived raw materials. They are cruelty free and formulated to suit all skin types. I get along with everything this brand has ever made.
Renew is a lightweight gel cleanser that removes makeup residue as well as any pollution, excess sebum and dirt. As well as cleansing it is formulated to protect the skin with superoxide dismutase, its hero ingredient that helps fights superoxide toxicity. Something you face everyday if you live in the city. The natural fruit acids of papaya and mango work to tighten pores and improve skin texture and tone for an illuminating complexion. I REALLLY REALLY LOVE IT.

Whilst we are on the subject of new-wave, super gel cleansers I’d like to mention a few others that have won me over.
Cleanser queen Eve Lom recently released their new Gel/Balm hybrid cleanser to market and this shit has flown of the shop shelves. For all you lovers of the original Balm cleanser the new gel one has the same well-loved eucalyptus, hops, clove and chamomile oil in a shea butter base. If you love the original but save it for colder months when skin needs more of a moisture boost you may want to give this a shot.
It feels rich and deliciously nourishing on skin and melts away all makeup including waterproof mascara. It claims to keep skin hydrated for 12 hours after use too.

HONORABLE MENTION to Oskia Renaissance Gel Cleanser, which has been a beauty junkie fav for years. I only recently tried this for the first time and it’s as fab as everyone says.
It has the necessary cocktail of vitamins and fruit enzymes to lift away impurities and restore glow and hydration. Vitamin C & E work against free radicals to improve sun damage and increase collagen production.

My need for a gel hybrid cleanser in my life this summer was strong. I’d go as far to say between creams, gel, balm and exfoliating the new-gen, gel-hybrid cleansers are my desert island choice. They are smart and work for every skin type.
Which one will you choose?
