I vividly remember my year 6 school disco. My mum got me an Oriental style shirt dress from Tammy Girl (side note: who lived for Tammy Girl as an 11 year old?) which I wore with tights and platforms boots. Man I looked cool. The second time around I’m loving the kimono and all Kimono inspired dressing. It’s the perfect way to look pulled together and on trend as it involves layering up, so you can look like you know what you’re doing even though you may not.
The Long Kimono
This is how most bloggers and fashion folk are wearing the trend. When you pair the Kimono with a pair of straight leg girlfriend jeans and a camisole it looks cool, chic and relaxed. It’s essential the jeans aren’t skinnies so the look stays modern. Any camisole or body works as long as its pretty simple.

The Kimono Style Oriental Dress
I picked this out mainly for the print which feels super oriental, and layered it over black skinny jeans so I’m also working the dress over trousers look, which I haven’t actually tried until now.
Some gals, the super skinny sort, can get away with a baggier jean but I think it’s wise to stick with skinnies for this look so the dress can do its thang and be all floaty and cute over the top.
I’m actually so into this dress though. the spaghetti straps with their teeny ruffles are such a dream and the pink colour is lovely for summer. Wearing this alone with Flatforms or sliders would also work for super hot days.

Mini Dress + Kimono
My final Kimono look is with this beautiful New Look short sleeve kimono. I wanted to try a lingerie inspired look so paired this with a super simple ASS black stretchy jersey slip dress. The shoes are also oriental vibin. These bright pink mules are part of the oriental trend at New Look right now too. Big hoops add a ghetto vibe and keep the look young and fun.
Fruit salad anyone?
