CHOKER LAYERING: THE BIGGEST FESTIVE PARTY TREND

| Style

Alexa Chung declared the choker dead in early 2016 but I’m pretty sure this ever reinventing neck-cessory trend will continue well into 2017. What started as a humble piece of stretchy black plastic in playgrounds of the 90’s has reinvented itself this year on the runway in every shape and form; pearls at Dolce, gold floral broach style embellishments at Gucci, leather, velvet and rhinestone, OH MY.

Admittedly I didn’t jump of this insta-girl trend until this summer when I was seduced by a suede bolero style tie choker in Miss Selfridge’s accessory department. Kendall and Gigi may also have had something to do with it…

Since then my choker collection has gone from strength to strength and I now have a choker for every occasion. Which leads me to my latest and favourite way to accessorise my neck. Choker layering; why stop at one when you can layer up and create something more bespoke and elaborate? See my favourite ways to layer up below…

My current fav approach to choker layering, the MORE IS MORE approach! I cannot claim creative direction on this set up. I bought it straight off the peg in Zara. This 3 tiered approach ticks a trio of trends when separate: minimal, decadent, delicate. When layered together it just looks SO COOL.

Delicately Layered

I love this simple rose gold toned choker set with delicate diamonds and chain. Delicate jewellery, like stacking rings and thin wrist chains with small gems are my preferred style of jewellery so I’m in love with this pretty little thing from New Look. I think this would look incredible with a deep plunging dress or top. Also is there was a bridal style of choker this would be it.

The decade when I first experienced the humble choker in its original design. I recall how difficult these were to get on, always messing with my slicked back gelled ponytail as I attempted to squeeze my head through. For some reason I never remembered to put it on pre hairstyling.

Keep this retro look modern by pairing it with a band of plain satin or velvet so you look like you belong to the second coming of the choker trend instead of discovering this trend 20 years too late.
